The reason you are in pain is the same reason for the increased rate of heart disease, cancer, diabetes, depression, obesity, and pulmonary disease in society – our lifestyle.
If we do not move, eat and think well we well get sick and experience an increase in illness and pain.
What happens to my spine when I do not move, eat, and think well?
Tissue damage – Injury, drugs, and ongoing repetitive stress destroys tissue which leads to acute and chronic pain.
Pressure on joints – Faulty posture and poor athletic form leads to muscle imbalances and high stress on tendons, bones, joints, and ligaments.
Increased nerve sensitivity – Systemic illnesses, anxiety, poor sleep habits, and poor posture causes us to become more sensitive to stimuli that normally would not produce pain.
Systemic inflammation – Chronic inflammation is not only a marker for heart disease and cancer but also increases our sensitivity to potentially painful stimuli.
Deconditioned body – Lack of exercise increases systemic inflammation
Anxiety and stress – Increases nerve sensitivity.
What are the leading causes of pain that are addressed by chiropractic? The underline causes of pain are primarily the same as the causes of heart disease, cancer, stroke, fatigue, diabetes, and depression: lack of good movement, nutrition, and thoughts. Pain and stiffness are usually the first signs that our body is breaking down and not correctly repairing itself. This is an important alert that life-style changes must be made.
When will my symptoms go away?
Usually spinal pain significantly decreases when spinal pressure on the disc, muscle, ligaments, nerves, and bone lessens. Chiropractic adjustments reduce spinal mechanical pressure.
Why should I continue getting adjusted if I am not in pain?
The absence of pain is temporary unless the underlying causes of the pain such as poor posture, imbalance, inadequate exercise, poor nutrition and stress are addressed. Adjustments are necessary to allow your spine to repair and improve biomechanics.
Should I take drugs to alleviate my pain?
The decision to start anti-analgesic (pain relief) regiment should not be taken lightly. A leading cause of hospital admissions is due to conditions caused by prescribed and over-the- counter pain medication.
Additionally, anti-analgesic medication DOES NOT HELP THE HEALING PROCESS and can hinder it. Anti-analgesic medications do not heal any of the causes of pain discussed in the previous column.
Your good health depends on how well your lifestyle supports your genetic makeup. When we do not eat, move, and think well – pain and symptoms will appear.
Listen to your body and improve how move, eat, and think to alleviate today’s pain and reduce the occurrence of future life-threatening illness.
